When one of the hottest video game publishers in the world teams with an iconic snaeker company the results should be… wait for it… legendary. Well, we said should be.
Rockstar Games and Jordan Brand (yes, the house that Air Jordan built) are releasing a limited-edition sneaker inspired by Midnight Club: Los Angeles and Los Angeles street racing culture.
Taking their inspiration from the classic Air Jordan II released in 1987, the sneakers are a custom design for Rockstar Games styled in red and black with the official Midnight Club “Kanji” symbol emblazoned in red on the tongue. Translated, “Kanji” means “Bayshore” – the location on the Japanese coast where street racing started.
Formed in 1985, the original Midnight Club was a Japanese street racing gang that hosted illegal races on the Bayshore Route of the Shuto Expressway between Tokyo to Yokohama. Regarded as one of the longest running street racing gangs, the Midnight Club became one of the most notorious and highly respected groups of its type.
The sneakers come in a custom-made etched acrylic collectors box with a copy of Midnight Club: Los Angeles and together are valued at $380. Only 40 pairs will be manufactured, fans of Midnight Club: Los Angeles can look to win them online on the Rockstar Games Social Club website, or through a promotion with the Foot Action Star Club, as well as through a promotion with long standing partners DUB.
Now, truth be told, the patent leather is a little off to us… but the collector in us still wants a pair, especially for the sweet collectors box.
