Put Those Tims Away

The Timberland is quintessential footwear in plenty of circles. The name itself refers to the entire company of apparel fit for outdoor work and play, but over time, its meaning has been reduced to the reference of a single product. When mentioned, one automatically thinks of the boot in its simplest form – no dual colorway or textured material, but the basic 6-inch golden nubuck with tree applique on the outer heel.

We’re not talking about the nonsense that is the “beef and broccoli” – the popularized leather and mesh, brown/green field boot. We’re talking about the standard Tim that looks good beneath the hem of an original-fit denim leg—the one men, women, and children would rock regularly even if it wasn’t snowing. Created over 30 years ago, the boot hasn’t lost its swagger; it’s still selling for $150. But who doesn’t love an inspired rendition? A musical cover by just as great an artist as the original. An updated and expanded version of a classic novel. Stay with me here.

From the brown ankle pad and gum sole, to the round laces and remniscent wheat color, it is clear that Supra has used the favored, most reliable boot as a stepping stone in the design of their latest Skytop. If they say they didn’t, it’s a lie. The fact that the crowned-logo co. plans to drop these on Black Friday ($140) is no mistake. These will top the lists of Christmas gift requests this year.

They may not have been tested for durability or water resistance, but just like the Timberland, they’ve got the comfort and style.
